ÅSA CARNELID-WICKMAN artist
works mainly with photography but is basicly a painter, and painting is still a reference or
a starting point. Identity questions like what it is to be a human beeing are often in focus
and become transformed into pictures, states of mind and rooms.
Landscapes as well as surfaces give impetus. The work proceeds by collecting
raw material mainly from nature, but also from more urban enviroments, and by taking
pictures directly at specific places, and from ideas and arrangements in the studio. Some
pictures are cut out, pasted, mixed and built up into new images. Often soft materials
like fabrics, grass and plastics, water and snow are used. The tactile feeling as well as
patterns and structures are important and directive.
Apart from the photowork there is a continuously ongoing work with drawings and three-
dimensional renderings and graphics.
